What should I do to keep my windshield chip damage from spreading?
Contact MyRockChip and make an appointment to get it repaired as soon as possible!

Preparation
Changes in temperature can cause extra time for your windshield rock chip repair, here’s how you can help:
- Park in a shaded area. Lower your side windows and allow air to circulate if in a secure area.
- When the windshield is too hot to touch, it needs to be cooled to be repaired. Usually takes about 15 minutes away from direct sunlight.
- Don't wash your vehicle, the change in temperature may cause the damage to spread.
Anticipating Rain:
The damaged area must be completely dry for the repair to be completed. Therefore if you believe it is likely to rain you can:
- Place a small piece of electrical or thin packing tape over the impact point before it rains.
- Do not use regular scotch tape.
- The impact point is usually the center mass of the crack or the white mark where the rock hit the windshield.

How long does it take to do the rock chip or crack service repair?
Most windshield rock chip repairs or cracks take 20-30 minutes in ideal conditions. Rain or excess heat will normally double the time required as it takes additional time to dry the windshield or allow it to cool before the repair can be done.
What are the reasons a Chip may spread**?
- Damage located 4” to 6” around the edge of the windshield is more likely to affect the structural integrity of the windshield as it is always under tension.
- Type of break Eagle, Star, & Bridged are more likely to spread. Bullseye & Combo are less likely to spread if there are no spikes protruding out of them.
- Extreme temperatures or changes in temperature.
**Note: it is possible for the chip/crack to spread during repair.
Will I notice the break after its been repaired?
Most repairs will improve the looks of your windshield by 70 - 90%.
Is there a Guarantee?
Yes, MyRockChip has an auto life guarantee on the repair. This means we will reimburse the cost of any repair.
On your invoice: I understand that the repairs being performed is a structural repair that will prevent further cracking of the windshield, and this repair is guaranteed as long as I own the vehicle, cracks over 6" are not covered.
What happens after the repair is done?
The vehicle can be driven, washed and etc as soon as the repair is done, no waiting period.
Is there anything I can do to help prevent rock chips?
Yes. There is a membrane product available from Windshieldskin.com It’s a clear, tint-like film applied to the outside of your windshield that can help protect against rock chips. You can purchase the product and have it applied through EVS Motors at http://evsmotors.com

Does my insurance company cover my rock chip windshield repair work?
As of January 1st, 2026, we’ll no longer accept insurance claims, although you could still submit the invoice to the insurance companies yourself for reimbursement.
Most insurance companies will waive your deductible.

What will it cost if I have to pay out of pocket for the rock chip windshield repair work?
$80/$85 ** - 2 chips, cash/credit card respectively.
$100/$105 ** - cracks from 4”-12”, cash/credit card respectively.
Any travel outside Beltway 8 is additional $20.
What payment types do you accept for out of pocket transactions?
